The Osaka Museum of History celebrated its fifth anniversary on November 3, 2006. In this anniversary year, we organized the special exhibition Exploring the Water Capital Osaka, highlighting the history of Osaka as a City of Water through items in our own collection. In autumn, we held Bricks and Tiles: The Building Blocks of Modern Architecture, putting the spot light on two major construction materials of modern architecture. In November, we launched a series of new projects were initiated in the framework of Museum Month for greater enjoyment of Osakas history and promotion of the museum. Special events included projection of cinema on Osaka and lectures on the historical Uemachi Plateau area. At this time, we also started a successful stamp card program to encourage visitors of all ages to return to the museum often.
Taking the opportunity of its fifth anniversary, the Osaka Museum of History reviewed its activities and identified tasks for the future. Through this effort, we formulated a document defining the museums mission and objectives, which can be read in this website. I hold strong hopes that you will share your views and comments on it with us.
At the outset of a new year, all of us at the Osaka Museum of History have renewed our commitment to work hard to achieve the Museums mission and objectives towards its tenth anniversary. We look forward to having your continued support to the Osaka Museum of History.
