special exhibition "The Glory of Persia"

Special exhibition "The glory of Persia" is open from 11th July to 17th Sep at Osaka Museum of History, the exhibition in full scale is for the first time in this 50 years. Persia, the oldest imperial civilization flourished, was a transmitter of East and West cultural exchange. At this exhibition, approximately 200 articles mainly from National museum of Iran are on display, consisting of prehistoric plastic arts, artifacts from Persepolis, registered as UNESCO's World Heritage, which proves the glory of the Achaemenid dynasty, and other artifacts of the Sassanid dynasty, which influenced ancient Japan, and so on. The extent of Persian beauty and history is introduced.
At first beauty of plastic arts from prehistoric times is focused, prior to the imperial civilization. Next, the artifacts discovered from Persepolis, which show the glory of Achaemenid dynasty, and golden crafts including "gold rhyton" are on display. And also the Glass and silver objects of Sassanid dynasty, which influenced ancient Japan, are exhibited.

The history of Persian stretches back to 7,000 years ago, including the prehistoric times. The characteristic urban civilization had flourished, which show another side of same coin with Mesopotamia civilization. Around 2,000 years BC, the Aryans had migrated into Iranian plateau, where they had settled was called "Parsa (means a frontier region)". It had been the origin of their name, "Persia".
Achaemenid dynasty, had risen from 6th century BC, extended its territory from Egypt in west to India Continent in the east at its climax, and flourished the oldest Imperial civilization. Architecture, arts, crafts and so on, in the highest level had been flowered. The most noteworthy is the golden crafts produced with marvelous metalworking technique.
Sassanian dynasty, had prospered from 3rd century AD, become the base of cultural exchange on the Eurasian Continent, which connected the Mediterranean and Eastern Asia region. Its arts and crafts also influenced ancient Japan, illustrated as cut glass and silver plate with hunting scene motif from Shosoin storehouse of Todaiji temple, Nara.
