NHK Taiga Drama Special Exhibition 'Tensho-in Atu-hime' Apr. 19th - Jun. 1st, 2008 In Osaka Museum of History, NHK Taiga Drama Special Exhibition "Tensho-in Atu-hime" is held from April 19th in Heisei20 (2008) to June 1st at Special Exhibition room at 6th floor. The turbulent life of Atu-hime is introduced, through about 250 articles, including textile, arts and crafts related with Tensho-in and handed through Tokugawa family, historical documents during the end of Edo to Meiji Restoration (including 8 National Treasure, 2 Important Cultural Property). Tensho-in was born in Imaizumi family, one of the Shimazu, which was the family of Satsuma-han feudal lord. She was introduced to Shimazu family as adapted child, and marriaged with 13th Shogun Iesada as a "Midaidokoro" wife. During that time the wife of Shogun was selected from the nobility in general, it was exceptional case that marriage between Shogun and Daimyo feudal lord. After the death of Iesada, Tensho-in supported the 14th Shogun Iemochi as a foster mother in turbulent political situation during the end of Edo period. She cooperated with Iemochi's wife Kazunomiya on management of inner chamber of Tokugawa family. In Keio4 (1868), Boshin War had began and the government army had been approaching to Edo, she wrote a petition to the leader of the government army for the Tokugawa family. This activity had an important meaning for the continuation of Tokugawa family. Tensho-in lived during the rapidly changing situation in the end of Edo to Meiji restoration. She completed her own responsibility with strong intention and belief although she was trifled with the changing of the day. Her dignified way of life is to move us exceeding the age. This exhibition introduces her life chronologically, it presents her character and the period she lived through many articles. In addition, lecture by Kimura Sachihiko (Ryozen Museum of History) is held at May 17th 14:00-. And gallery talk by curator of this museum is held April 25th 19:00-, 26th 14:00- and May 9th 19:00-. |
