In Osaka Museum of History, featured exhibition “90th anniversary Osaka central public hall – architecture, art and stage” is held from October 29th to December 23rd 2008, in featured exhibition room at 8th floor.
Osaka central public hall opened in 1918 (Taisho 7), reach its 90 years in this 2008. During these years the hall has been served as center for events and loved by many citizens. In 1999-2002 (Heisei 11-14), the preservation and renovation project had been carried out, and in 2002 the hall was designated as important cultural property by Japanese government. In this exhibition, on commemorative of 90th anniversary, the process until establishment, events after the completion, and the discoveries during the preservation and renovation project are introduced.
The exhibition consists of five part, the materials are presented in “1. Donator: Iwamoto Einosuke”, “2. Architectural design competition and construction project”, “3. Matsuoka Hisashi’s paintings on the ceiling and the wall”, “4. Stage activity in the Osaka central public hall” and “5. Preservation and renovation project in Heisei era”.
One of the highlights is 2nd corner, 13 proposals by famous architect in the competition are presented, showing the examination and selection of the competition. And 3rd corner presents the process of paintings in special hall at third floor of the hall, through esquisse by Matsuoka Hisashi.
We hope visitors will discover the unknown figure of Osaka central public hall through this exhibition, which has been familiar with citizens as a symbol of Osaka.
