In Osaka Museum of History, the special exhibition “Treasures of Osaka –Prayer, various beauty and form- Designated Cultural Properties of Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City” is held at Special exhibition room at 6th floor, from Jul.19th to Sep. 1st.
Osaka has a long history from the ancient times, and there are many cultural properties. The articles which have notable historical or cultural meaning in Osaka have been designated by Osaka prefecture and Osaka city, and preserved and protected to the future. From 1969 (Showa44) Osaka prefecture has been designated 464 articles as Osaka prefectural cultural property, and Osaka city began to designate Osaka city cultural property from 1999 (Heisei11), amount to 122 articles. These properties include objects relating faith or religious beliefs like Buddhist image, Japanese Shinto, and Christianity. It suggests that religious beliefs were much more important to people and to society than they are in modern world.
This special exhibition focuses on the religious beliefs that influenced people’s lives and show the excellent pieces of each period. We hope that this exhibition will be some help for the understanding of mind and soul of people in ancient times.
In addition, designated cultural property of Osaka city in recent years, fiscal 2006 and 2007 (Heisei 18, 19), will be introduced for the first time in this exhibition.
Moreover, the lecture and gallery talk relating this exhibition will be held
