Where is the Osaka Museum of History located? How can I get there?
The Museum is located at Otemae, Chuo-ku, Osaka, which is southwest of Osaka Castle Park. The NHK Osaka Broadcasting Center is located next to the Museum.
When visiting by train:
・Get off at Tanimachi 4-Chome Station on the Osaka Municipal Subway’s Tanimachi Line and walk to the east about 300 m from Exit 2.
・Get off at Tanimachi 4-Chome Station on the Osaka Municipal Subway’s Chuo Line and you’ll find the Museum right next to Exit 9.
Visiting by bus:
・The Museum is located right next to Osaka Municipal Bus’s Banbacho Bus Stop.
What days are the Museum closed, and what are its opening hours?
The Museum is closed every Tuesday (the next business day when Tuesday is a national holiday) and during the year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 28 to Jan. 4). Our opening hours are from 9:30 to 17:00 (entrance is allowed thirty minutes before closing time at the latest).
How much are your admission fees?
Permanent exhibitions: 600 (540) yen for adults and 400 (360) yen for senior high school and college students.
* The prices in parentheses are the admission fees for groups of 20 persons or more.
* We offer free admission to those who are junior high school students or younger children, those who live in Osaka City and are 65 years of age or older (must present documentation), and those who have certificates such as disability certificates (also one caregiver can be admitted for free).
Special exhibitions: You need to pay additional fees in addition to those for permanent exhibitions. The admission fees depend on the special exhibition. So, see the webpage on specific special exhibitions.

We offer package tickets for the Osaka Castle Museum (donjon) at Osaka Castle and the Osaka Museum of History (permanent exhibitions). The tickets allow you to enter these two places. While the regular price of tickets for admission to the Osaka Castle Museum at Osaka Castle is 600 yen for the general public and that of tickets for admission to the Osaka Museum of History is 600 yen for the general public (400 yen for senior high school and college students), the price of the package tickets is 900 yen for the general public and senior high school and college students. You can buy the package tickets at the Osaka Castle Museum at Osaka Castle and the Osaka Museum of History. The package ticket is valid for one person and for one entrance to each place. Also, the tickets are valid for six months from the ticket sale date. The tickets become invalid if detached before entrance.
* To view special exhibitions held at the Osaka Museum of History, you need to pay additional fees.
Does the Museum have a parking lot?
Yes. It is on the second basement level and is available for passenger vehicles that are 2.1 m or less in height.
The parking fees are 400 yen for the first hour and 200 yen per 30 minutes thereafter.
* You can receive a discount (50%) by presenting certificates including disability certificates. Drop by the parking lot management counter before leaving the parking lot.
Is the Museum wheelchair accessible?
Yes, it is accessible to persons with disabilities, and it has wheelchair-accessible restrooms on all floors. Also, you can borrow wheelchairs in the Museum.
I plan to arrange a group visit. Should I make a reservation?
Yes. We would like you to make a reservation so that your group can smoothly enter the Museum.
Fill in the “application form for group visits” with the required information and send it by mail or fax. (Group admission fees are applied to groups with 20 persons or more whose admission is not free.)
If teachers plan to lead groups of elementary school students, junior high school students, or special needs education school students and intend to receive admission fee exemptions they need to submit an “application form for group visits combined with a request for admission fee exemptions.”
Note that application forms for group visits are available on the Museum’s website. There are two types of application forms: one for groups of members of the general public (including high school and college students) and the other for groups of students from schools including elementary schools and junior high schools. Please select the type of application form that is appropriate for your group.

Can we try on kimono there?
Yes. On the 10th, 9th, and 7th floors, where there are permanent exhibitions, we are offering hands-on programs associated with the theme of each floor.
In some such programs, you can have the experience of putting on old-fashioned kimono (7th floor) and clothes in the style of public officials of the Nara era (10th floor). Click the link for detailed schedules.
Facilities in the Museum
Can I eat in the Museum?
Yes. We have a restaurant named Star Isle on the first floor. You are not allowed to eat in any places in the Museum other than the restaurant. A rest booth is available on the second floor, and drink vending machines are installed there. If you are going to bring food such as box lunches, eat it outside of the Museum in places such as open squares.
Are visitors allowed to take photos in exhibition booths?
Photography is allowed in the permanent exhibition for personal use only. However, photography is not allowed for materials with a "Do Not Photograph" sign.
Cameras, smartphones, etc. must be hand-held. No flash, additional lighting, monopods, tripods, selfie sticks, etc. may be used.
Please refrain from taking pictures while walking or taking pictures for long periods of time, or any other behavior that may disturb other visitors.
Please refrain from filming for the purpose of reproduction, distribution, or commercial use.
Please refrain from taking video of the videos being played in the museum.
Please refrain from taking photos or videos that include other guests or staff members, as it may be an infringement of their portrait rights.
Please be aware that the Museum will not be held responsible for any problems that may arise over photos or videos taken by visitors.

Are baby strollers allowed in the Museum?
Yes, they are ordinarily allowed. However, when the Museum is crowded, we may ban baby strollers in exhibition booths in order to secure children’s safety. Note that you can borrow baby strollers at the general information counter on the first floor.
Does the Museum have a nursery room?
Yes. It is on the first floor. Ask at the general information counter if you want to use it.
Are there any museum brochures written in foreign languages?
Yes. There are brochures for general guidance (for free) in English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Korean, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Thai.
There are catalogs on the permanent exhibitions (1,050 yen) in English, Chinese, and Korean.
Audio guidance devices (200 yen per unit) are available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
Also, some displays such as signs and some explanatory panels in the Museum are written in English.
I want to read exhibition catalogs and study cultural resources. What should I do?
You can read the books collected in the Museum at the Naniwa History School on the second floor. Also, curators are available for visitors’ consultations for study and research. So, feel free to visit the School.
Can you keep large baggage such as suitcases for safekeeping?
Coin-operated lockers are installed on the first floor. You need to insert a 500-yen coin to use the locker, but the coin is returned when you take your belongings out of the locker. Also, you can leave baggage that does not fit into the lockers at the General Information Counter on the first floor.
