Shasei-ga (realistic representations of nature) of the Osaka Mori School: Evolution of Maruyama Ōkyos Paintings.

Outline

The lecture will explain how Mori Sosen and his contemporaries pursued shasei-ga paintings in Osaka in the Edo period and how they were associated with Maruyama Ōkyo, a Kyoto-based painter credited with creating a new painting style based on shasei, or realistic representations of nature.

Every day during the exhibition period, the first 100 visitors to the special exhibition with paid tickets will be given the opportunity to draw an animal omikuji fortune slip that tells the fortune for the day for free.
